Why This Matters in San Antonio

San Antonio's long, hot summers put heat into wheels and brake parts, and brake dust bakes onto them in the heat. The city has a strong truck, custom-car and wheel culture — you see it on every road — and that means plenty of wheels, calipers and suspension parts that need refinishing. The spring hailstorms that dent and chip metal can damage wheel finishes too. A cured powder finish takes that heat, brake dust and road abuse better than paint, which is why it's the right choice for wheels and auto parts here.

Care & Prevention

Clean brake dust off coated wheels with a pH-neutral wheel cleaner — harsh acids can dull the finish. Avoid curb contact to prevent chips, and touch up any chips before corrosion creeps under the coating. For coated calipers and engine parts, gentle cleaning keeps the finish looking fresh.

Cost to Powder Coat Wheels

What drives the cost: wheel size, condition, how much curb rash and corrosion repair is needed, the finish, the number of colors, and whether the tires need to be removed and remounted. Two-stage finishes like candy and prismatic cost more because they need a base coat plus a clear or color coat. We give you a firm price after we see the wheels.

Wheel Finishes

Popular wheel finishes include gloss black, satin, bronze, gunmetal, candy and color-shift "prismatic" finishes. We also do chrome-look powder coat — honestly described as a chrome-effect powder finish, not real chrome plating. It gives a bright, reflective look without the cost and environmental issues of chrome plating. Prismatic finishes shift color depending on the angle, for a show-quality effect.

Car Frame Sandblasting & Chassis Parts

We sandblast car frames, chassis and suspension parts to strip old paint, rust and undercoating down to bare metal before coating. For project cars and trucks, a clean, blasted frame is the foundation of a lasting finish — and we do the blasting and coating that gets it there.

Classic Car Restoration

We work alongside owners and car restoration shops on the blasting and coating side of classic car restoration — frames, suspension, brackets and wheels. We're not a full car restoration shop; we do the blasting and powder coating that's part of a restoration, and we do it right. San Antonio has a strong truck and custom-car culture, and we're glad to be part of that scene.

Wheel, Rim & Automotive Powder Coating FAQ

QHow long does it take to powder coat wheels?

Most wheel sets take a few business days, but the exact turnaround depends on the wheel size and condition, how much curb rash and corrosion repair is needed, the finish, and whether the tires need to be removed and remounted. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when we quote the work.

QCan you powder coat wheels with the tires on?

No — tires need to be removed before coating. The wheel goes in an oven to cure the powder, and the tire can't go in the oven. We remove the tires (or you have them removed) before blasting and coating, and they get remounted after. We'll walk through the whole process when you book.

QIs powder coat better than paint for wheels?

For most wheels, yes. Powder coating is thicker and tougher than paint, so it resists chips, brake dust and curb rash better — and it holds its color and gloss longer in the sun. Wheels take a lot of abuse from heat, brake dust and road debris, and a cured powder finish is built for that.
